Sun 8/4 – Playoffs Round 3 (or 2)

TUE 7/30 (11:45AM) — In SF, you can see that a lot of Repeat Championships could fall on 8/25. After that is Labor Day Weekend. After that, we’re starting our 2013 Fall season. So we basically have a hard stop coming up. Again, if there is a tipoff request impasse, the league will schedule the game at whatever time best suits the good of the many, and both teams will be expected to show. If they don’t, then it’s a forfeit and the team that’s a no-show would have to pay the refs and scorekeepers for both teams ($70 total). That’s just how it goes.

TUE 7/30 (11:30AM) — All the SJ and OAK brackets have been updated. I am updating SF right now, per the closure of ISAH. You can see that some of the Losers Brackets got altered a little, where we could afford to do it — matter of fact, it’s more elegant to have mini-final-fours in the Losers Brackets anyways, so it worked out okay in terms of aesthetics, as well as the fickle teams asking for byes last Sunday.

Sun 7/28 – Playoffs Round 2

WED 7/24 (2:00PM) — I believe the first draft of the playoff brackets had the dates wrong. They should be fixed now. Next round is this Sun 7/28… WED 7/24 (10:30AM) — Welcome to the 2013 Summer Playoff Brackets. Below you can deduce the schedule by clicking on your division and looking at the date of the next matchup on the brackets. Any errors should be reported by your captain to me by text message asap.

2013 Summer Sunday Rankings

WED 7/10 (3:45PM) — Sorry to be blunt and insensitive, but people STILL don’t get it. There is no such thing as divisions anymore. There were when people signed up, but no longer for good reason: to prevent sandbagging. And believe me, we know who you are. We’ve tried over the years to stop you from doing it, but you keep doing it. Finally, I have your kryptonite: Rankings. Sorry! But I believe you will enjoy having closely contested matches better than blowing everyone out by 20. I know that everybody else who has talked to me who does NOT have your ability of recruiting ringers, loves it. FACT.

Now, the tough part is figuring out who belongs in which playoff bracket, just as it would be tough to say whether the 2012-13 Lakers belong in the “Elite” bracket or the “Second-Tier” bracket. But we’ll just have to cross that bridge (next week, probably) when we cross it.

Therefore, for the regular season, all you do now is play, get ranked, and play again, based on your ranking. There is nothing simpler than that. This means if a team should pickup a ringer, it shouldn’t matter (barring our playoff eligibility rules) because they’ll just move up and play against teams that are similar to them. Similarly, should a team lose an impact player and become worse, they’ll simply fall in the rankings and settle in among the teams they ought to be playing against.

The goal is to have Dream League be a place where it brings out the best of YOU, against fair and exciting competition. Our philosophy is quite simple: going 6-0 and beating every team by double digits, and conversely the opposite of that, going 0-6, sucks and is best left for vanilla city leagues. If you want to cream the competition and pound your chest in domination, that will probably not happen here. Dream League is a place where championships are EARNED.

  • If there’s an “x” in the first column, that means you’re playing this Sun 6/23,
  • If there’s a red box in the first column, that means you’re team is NOT playing this Sun 6/23,
  • If there’s a blank in the first column, that means we haven’t gotten around to you yet.
  • Oakland teams are listed in A’s colors (green and yellow),
  • San Francisco teams are listed in Giants colors (black and orange),
  • San Jose teams are listed in Sharks colors (blue/green and black),
  • The teams are listed in order of our statcrew’s educated guess on how strong they are, relative only to other teams in your city,
  • The division and subdivision ranking is somewhat irrelevant, as we do not base rankings on divisions, only on results and what we’ve seen,
  • Our scheduling crew will matchup teams mostly based on rankings, but may tweak it here and there,
  • There is currently no way to request changes to the Rankings, but we plan to have a process shortly.

TUE 6/18 (2:00PM) — Welcome to the first-ever Dream League rankings! As previously discussed on the Weekly Schedule page, this is our way of scheduling (in lieu of the time-consuming process of creating roadmaps), which also can be used as an anti-sandbagging mechanism, thereby giving all of us a better chance of having more exciting games every Sunday.

We do not have a method yet for reporting any discrepancies or complaints about where you rank, so please save your questions for at least a couple days as we get that process working.

Sunday 2012 Fall Playoff Brackets

Back to 2012 Fall Sundays Weekly Schedule

MON 11/19 (12:00PM) — Here are the playoff brackets for this season. I am currently going through each one and touching things up. They are updated up until the start of yesterday’s games, Sun 11/18. I will update with SF results since I have them on hand. Freddie will continue to update both SF and OAK when he can, early each week. Thanks to Freddie for doing this two weeks ago. Sorry for the delay, had a lot of things on my plate…

Sunday A/R-SF Lower 2012 Winter-Spring Playoff Brackets

THU 3/15 (3:30PM) — Here are the playoff seedings for A/R-SF Lower. We’ve separated all the A/R-SF teams into Upper and Lower, by being at or above .500 versus below .500. It was just easier to keep this Lower bracket at 4 teams, rather than add BTR AAA (see A/R-SF Upper explanation via League Navigator using Category=Teams/Standings on the right). Five teams would’ve been a tad more of a pain to schedule. In any case, we won’t start this bracket until 3/25 because of the gym shortage in SF on 3/18. To see the standings, please use the League Navigator on in right-hand panel of this website. We’ll post playoff brackets later…

  1. Blazers (2-4) — won head-to-head vs Heatonkees
  2. Heatonkees (2-4) — lost head-to-head vs Blazers
  3. Wolverines (1-5)
  4. ZNGA (0-6)

Dream League uses the NFL Wild-Card Tiebreaker system, which basically means (1) head-to-head results, (2) record vs common opponents, (3) strength-of-victory (we interpret that as point differential in games won, then overall point differential), and (4) the rarely used strength-of-schedule. As with the NFL Wild-Card system, you compare teams within your conference first, then outside of your conference. Teams that finish below other teams in the same conference cannot finish higher than that team, therefore, the tiebreaker process starts all over again at the top after you’ve eliminated each successive team from a tiebreaker.
