FRI 2/3 (12:15PM) — I wrote this already, but stats are not available yet. As I wrote previously, you can blame all the laggers who don’t signup on time, because we absolutely need to know the structure of each division before we punch in stats. This is the last time I’ll talk about it until we are ready. If you ask before we are ready, you will be ignored.
THU 2/2 (12:30PM) — Forgot to list AAA-SJ byes (God Bless It and Bring Protection). They’re on there now, scroll down.
THU 2/2 (11:45AM) — Forgot to mention that I had to put SQ outside of its preferred timeframe, at 1pm. I’ll give them the option to shift all 3 games at BCRC back to 1230,130,230pm if they want, but if I don’t hear from them then it’s still 12,1,2pm set, as you see below.
THU 2/2 (11:15AM) — The schedule for Superbowl Sun 2/5 is below, scroll down. Please note, a/r-sj Rudy Gay has a doubleheader. I honestly can’t quite remember how we got there, but a lot of that had to do with the fact that many SJ teams could play on 1/22 when they couldn’t. The doubleheader for Rudy Gay is necessary to keep the remainder of the season roadmap smooth. Sorry guys, but oh well. Remember, the Losers Bracket of playoffs requires the ability to survive doubleheaders, so consider it training for the most grueling part of Dream League.
Also, this week, the 6FT-SF team that travels to meet Beast (Oakland) is Below The Rim 6FT. You’ll see it explained on the 6FT-OSF roadmap later, but with 7 teams, 1 of which is in Oakland, each of the 6 other SF teams will visit Beast for those 6 regular season games. Then Beast will travel to SF for the first round of playoffs. Then after that, case-by-case basis ensuring that Beast’s opponent has traveled a similar amount as Beast itself.
Here are the byes for this Sun 2/5, with maybe a brief one-line explanation. Once I saw what was happening, I made adjustments to various season roadmaps to minimize the effect on 2/5 and I got sort of lucky that everything fit into the SF and SJ gyms, while the OAK gym is surprisingly sparse. Some of the postponed matchups (which are essentially byes for 2/5) will be doubleheader makeups, some won’t; it just depends, so wait for your division roadmap. I know you are still flying blind, but everything will make sense once you see the season roadmaps for each division…

THU 2/2 (10:30AM) — I’m 95% done with the Superbowl Sunday matchups for this Sun 2/5. Everything should be posted by 2pm, hopefully more like 12pm today.
WED 2/1 (11:45AM) — There are complications in scheduling 2/5 due to the Superbowl (kickoff at 330p). There were also complications impacting the season roadmaps due to the 49ers game 1/22 and many teams not starting until 1/29. So it is these combinations of factors making me hesitate to publish the season roadmaps just yet. Therefore, let me get through this 2/5 mess and things will post shortly.
Let me give you an example of how messy things are. I have one team in A/R-SF that needs to move up to AAA because there are key players already on another A/R-SF team and there was a miscommunication. Because I had actually finished the season roadmaps for both, I had to rack my brain and come up with a smoother solution by swapping out a AAA-SF team that probably doesn’t belong there, and is more suited for A/R-SF.
Then there’s a new team being added to AAA-SJ and they are slow registering and paying, but I wanted to have another competitive team in there because that’s been a major complaint there. It’s crazy how it takes some teams more than a month to gather their teams.
Then there’s a team in SJ that got blown out by 30 and feels like they’re in the wrong division, so there’s more juggling there for me yet again, with this new upper division team coming in and basically taking their spot, etc. etc.
Again, this is EVEN BEFORE I CAN EVEN THINK ABOUT SCHEDULING 2/5. This is why when I finally get a chance to lookup the payments and your payment isn’t there, I can get irritable. This is why when I post information up like this and you don’t read it and you’re asking me something I already addressed, I get fed up. I’m just overwhelmed.
This is also why stats aren’t up yet. If you know our dreamleague.org stats site, you probably have gotten the sense that all stats are contained division by division. This is so that if Joe Schmoe plays in AAA and A/R, we have one unique player in each division, and this player is accumulating stats in two divisions. If you throw all stats into one bucket, then we have to create a duplicate Joe Schmoe, and that from a stats perspective makes no sense. So as long as there are teams preventing me from locking down a division, I’m not going to be able to enter the stats. And as long as there are more than one division with such complications, I’m going to queue up the to-do’s on creating the stats sites instead of doing it piecemeal.
Here is an email I sent out to all captains. IF YOUR CAPTAIN ISN’T RECEIVING OR RESPONDING TO THESE EMAILS, YOUR TEAM WILL BE AT A DISADVANTAGE WITH LACK OF INFORMATION. “You snooze, you lose.”
But don’t worry, I’m in good spirits esp after Dominic McGuire proved he should be in the Warriors rotation last night. OK, I got 57 responses to the 2/5 Superbowl email below that I need to notate on the scheduling spreadsheet…
Dear Dream League captains,
PLEASE CONSULT WITH YOUR TEAM AND GET BACK TO ME ASAP…
This Sun 2/5 is the Superbowl. Traditionally, we take the weekend off, but we are getting really behind here in certain divisions, due to the 49ers from 1/22 and teams taking awhile to register and pay. I am expecting a few teams to play, due to makeup reasons — and btw this is why on the registration pages, I explicitly say not to take vacation until May; we will need every weekend in April to end the season, just in case.
Also sometimes people want to keep the momentum going and still play on 2/5, just as a personal preference. But remember, if you want to play on 2/5 and I wasn’t expecting you to, then we will need to find an opponent who also wants to play. “It takes two to tango.”
I have actually completed most of the division roadmaps, but there are a couple that are ultra-complicated. Instead of getting into the gory details, I think it is just easier to ask everyone at once, then I will sort out all the responses:
DO YOU WANT TO PLAY THIS SUN 2/5?
1. I’m actually really hoping that *all* REC teams with a morning timeframe (SF-AM, OAK-AM, certain A/R-SJ teams) can play.
2. Please note: Superbowl kicks off at 3:30pm. Gyms are available pretty much anytime before, during, or after.
3. Please be specific. Don’t just say, “Yeah we want an early game.” That doesn’t help. Specify exact tipoffs like “9a-2p or 7p-9p”.
4. When you reply, please state your (a) team name and (b) division. REPEAT: WHEN YOU REPLY, INCLUDE TEAM+DIVISION.
5. Do not reply to this email with anything except your answer to this. Ask other questions in a separate email, separate subject. Please don’t be lazy.
6. Again, some of you I am *really* hoping you can play this Sun 2/5. When you reply, I’ll let you know.
PLEASE RESPOND BY TUE 11:59PM (TOMORROW!!!).
7. If you respond after Tue 11:59pm, then things can be messy and there will be no guarantees on anything. Again, be proactive and help me out here.
8. Expect the schedule for 2/5 to come out late again. I can already tell it’s going to be another complicated week.
9. Remember, all these complications on 1/22 and 2/5, I feel like I’m going out of my way to make people happy. Please treat me with reciprocal respect.
