Sunday Bird’s Eye View Schedule for 1/22

SAT 1/21 (8:00AM) — I’ve added a list of byes to the area right above the table below. Don’t forget, there’s a series of old posts still below the schedule table.

Also, I have renamed the REC divisions as follows:

  • REC-SF has been split into AM and PM, so I’ve called them SF-AM and SF-PM, respectively.
  • REC-OAK- (i.e., Lower division) has been split into AM/PM, thus OAK-AM and OAK-PM.
  • REC-OAK+ (i.e., Upper division) is now known as REC-O+. We’ve called it this in the past.
  • Even though San Jose will be an old school “blended” division, I’m still calling them A/R-SJ and AAA-SJ so far (6FT-SJ probably not though, we’ll see).

I’m actually done with the season roadmaps for A/R-OAK, REC-O+, OAK-PM, and OAK-AM, but won’t be posting those until next week. You can sort of see this development listed under the byes, where I have two teams listed as a matchup as a bye; this means that the matchup, previously scheduled on 1/22, was moved to another week other than 1/22. You’ll see this once the roadmap announcements are made.

FRI 1/20 (10:15PM) — Earlier this evening, Top Flight REC requested a swap with the 10am game and went through the trouble of getting permission from all teams involved. Therefore, you now see their game at 10am vs Black Out and WWWD vs Oak Warriors has moved earlier to 9am… FRI 1/20 (8:00AM) — Oakland is done. Here’s the schedule for this Sun 1/22. Please scroll below the table to see how we got here. For those of you new to Dream League, the pref1 and pref2 columns correspond to the respective team’s tipoff timeframe. This week, due to the 49ers game, a vast majority of you are roughly 9a-2p, as you can see. So those columns are literally the information that I use to come up with your tipoff this Sun 1/22 (I actually messed up a couple, but it was due to the overwhelming pressure of this 49ers conflict — my bad).

As far as the remainder of your season, I will create what are called season roadmaps next week. At that point, I’ll know whom is matched up against whom each week and my only major task is to figure out the aforementioned tipoffs based on the overlapping timeframes. It will also serve as a schedule and calendar for you, obviously. However, the roadmaps can sometimes be changed should a scheduling issue arise for your team, although such changes cannot be guaranteed. More on all of this next week.

THU 1/19 (6:45PM) — SF schedule has been confirmed. Kuya and Aubergine agreed to play in the 9a-2p timeframe and the gym director said 7p and after is a no-go. Therefore we only have REC-SF games this Sun 1/22 in SF. The new gym will open next week. Also, I have put San Jose in the same table and I previously discussed that in the posts below the current table, so scroll down and read that if you need to. Up next is Oakland and I hope to get that done tonight sometime before midnight (sorry guys!)…

THU 1/19 (2:15PM) — Crap, I miscalculated REC-SF. Captains have been sent a follow-up email. Kuya and Aubergine are in different sub-divisions (AM/PM). I might have to force another AM and PM team to take a bye this Sun 1/22 if we can’t work something out. I can’t work on this until after 5p, either. Let’s see how the dust settles. And Oakland, thanks for your patience… (2:00PM) — Per the previous post, scroll down for the SJ schedule. The following email was just sent to SF captains. I need to get some things done, but it explains pretty clearly who is probably playing this Sun 1/22 and who’s not. For OAK teams, please wait until tonight for an update. We’ll get there, don’t worry. Again, the Rumor Mill page has everyone’s 1/22 preferences listed.

This information is hot off the presses. First off, I have finally found a secondary gym in SF. An announcement will be made by early next week.

Secondly, we have 18 teams in the REC-SF and 6 of them played last Sun 1/15. That leaves 12 teams that haven’t, or 6 games (2 teams per game, obviously). To keep things simple in terms of season scheduling, I’m going to give the 6 REC-SF teams that played last Sun 1/15 a bye for this Sun 1/22. This avoids the season roadmap from being screwed up by some weird matchup.

Also, 2 games from A/R-SF were played this past Sun 1/15. It follows that, to keep these less complicated in the season roadmap, those 4 teams will also not play this Sun 1/22. Enjoy the Niner game, folks.

Now, it just so happens that only two REC-SF teams, Aubergine and Kuyabraddas, want to play AFTER the 49ers game (like 7p+). That leaves 5 games to be scheduled in the 9a-2p timeframe. There are 6 timeslots between 9a-2p tipoffs. That means I have one more slot available for a game. And yes, NOBODY in SF wants to miss the 49ers game, unlike in Oakland where there are actually a handful of teams (probably Raiders fans?) who don’t care.

Let me know if your team is *not* in REC-SF (because you are already accounted for in the above paragraph), and you have an itch to play a game this Sun 1/22 between 9a-2p tipoffs.

To recap…

1. Secondary gym ready for 1/29 and onward.
2. REC-SF and A/R-SF teams that played last Sun 1/15 will not play this Sun 1/22.
3. There’s one timeslot in 9a-2p available for two teams to play, that are not in REC-SF. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO PLAY!

If you do not respond, I’ll just assume you don’t want to play that one time slot that’s available, assuming you’re not in REC-SF.

THU 1/19 (1:30PM) — Here’s the schedule for San Jose. Next up: SF, then OAK. Scroll way down past this table to see previous posts pertaining to this Sun 1/22.

Issues for San Jose…

  • Byes for Rudy Gay, Good Shepherd, and Anklebreakers, as requested by them.
  • Bye for SJ Hibachi (AAA equivalent team).
  • Don’t start any 6FT teams yet as I need confirmation they are comfortable with the regular season and playoff strategy, which is to mix them in and then rank the teams after 6 regular season games, then split the playoffs accordingly as they do with NCAA, NIT, and so on. This is “old school” in that most leagues start up with a wide range of competitiveness. I’m sure we’ll discuss this further.

THU 1/19 (11:15AM)Rumor Mill page updated… (8:00AM) — Still checking everyone’s emails. Almost done. While it’s becoming obvious that we can’t fit everyone into the 9a-2p,7p-9p tipoff timeslots — and that because of the 49ers, effectively we’ll have to extend the season out one more week (update to CALENDAR page will happen next week) — please standby for the final word for your particular team. As I always say, be ready to play, but at the same time don’t get too discouraged if your team ends up with a bye. That’s just how it goes with Dream League sometimes. Sorry for the delay, been battling a sore throat too. Hope to have an update for you by 12pm today.

WED 1/18 (2:15PM) — I will now check everyone’s emails to me about the 49ers game conflict. I suspect that many of you will have a bye. There are only so many gyms where we can cram 9a-2p,7p+ tipoffs anyways. Stay tuned and check the Rumor Mill for more info.

MON 1/16 (11:15AM) — Right now you should be checking between this page and the Rumor Mill page for updates. Below is an informative email I just sent out to all captains explaining what’s happening this week.

One thing I forgot to say is that we have the scores and stats from 1/8 and 1/15, but won’t be posting those until the registrations and payments have been settled. This is because each division needs to be nailed down before we start inputting stats. If we mess any part of that up, or if one division is to be combined with another due to lack of teams, it’s extremely difficult to go back and correct it. So all of this depends on captains paying for their registrations. The longer they hold out, the longer it takes to setup the stats.

Meantime, I will be getting those 1/8 and 1/15 scoresheets to Freddie so at least he can start posting recaps that we usually broadcast on Twitter. More on that later.

Here’s the latest email to captains…

Dear 2012 Winter-Spring captains,

Approximately 95% of you are actually registered as reflected on the Rumor Mill table here: …The 5% that aren’t and are not expected to enter a team, apologies for the extraneous email.

This announcement is primarily for the newer teams. Here is what is happening this week…

MON (TODAY) – Teams that haven’t paid need to get on the ball and get paid, otherwise they risk “missing the train”.
TUE – I will make a major update of the Rumor Mill table by reconciling registrations and payments
WED – I will start figuring out the shape of our divisions in each location, and start building season schedules, or “roadmaps”
THU – Probably in the evening, since the first weeks are terribly hectic, I will email and post the schedule for Sun 1/22
FRI – Actually, everything could be delayed by one day to here. Just be forewarned. Be ready to play, but realize that sometimes a wrench from left field hits me in the head and could cause your team not to play, even though we wanted you to play. For example, today (Monday) is a holiday for a lot of gym directors. Let’s hope they respond back to me as normal this week. You just never know.

It’s going to be a busy week.

NOW THAT THE 49ERS ARE PLAYING THIS SUNDAY 1/22, we also need to figure out if we need to schedule around that. Kickoff is at 330p and because I will also need to schedule around the Superbowl on 2/5, I would like to put as many games as possible this Sun 1/22. For example, have tipoffs from 9a-2p, ending at 3p, skipping around the 49ers game 330p-730p, and resuming with more games at 8p and 9p.

So please reply back as follows:

1. What times you can play this Sun 1/22 (49ers). If you are not a 49ers fan, then you would just put whatever you can play. If you are a 49ers fan, then please let me know if 9a-2p, 8p+ works. Or whatever. Just remember that we need to finish the season by a certain date, so we all might be subject to doubleheader makeups. Some teams have already played 2-3 games, while some have played none — there’s some catchup needed.

2. Your name.

3. Your team name.

4. Your division and location.

Please EMAIL ME BACK THIS INFO (do not text) by simply hitting reply and answering the questions, as my gmail will help group the reply and it would be easier to track than if you texted me or changed the subject line. And please save me time by including your name, team name, and division/location in your reply.
