2011 Spring-Summer Sundays A/R-SF Playoff Bracket

THU 7/28 (5:00PM) — Half the field is in Tahoe or otherwise out of town, so we’ll just postpone the entire division. Next games are on 8/7, of course. The playoff bracket below has been updated as such with these future dates coming up…

THU 7/21 (3:30PM) — For this Sun 7/24, we have 7 teams in the Losers Bracket and 4  in the Winners Bracket. It follows that we’ll have 2 of the Winners Bracket losers drop down for 7/31. Therefore in the Losers Bracket, we’ll need to dwindle 7 teams on 7/24 into 2 teams for 7/31, so that we’ll have 4 total Losers Bracket teams on 7/31 to dwindle down to one by 8/7.

To dwindle 7 teams into 2, we’ll have three teams eliminate into one on the top side of the bracket, while having four teams eliminate into one on the bottom side. In the group of three, we’ll have the two worst seeds, then the winner plays the highest seed. In the mini-final-four, we’ll have the remaining highest vs lowest. So that’s why we have the #11/#10 vs #4 and #6/#9 vs #7/#8 setup for 7/24. In essence, the top seed #4 has earned the right to play against the lowest seed (either #10 or #11). No matchups should have occurred already.

Note that for the Losers Bracket on 7/31, the structure could change a little, depending on which seeds drop from the Winners Bracket. Remember, it’s always highest seed vs lowest seed in the Losers Bracket, unless the matchup yields teams that have already played each other in the playoffs. If a repeat matchup occurs, there must be a next-best viable matchup (highest seed vs the NEXT-lowest seed).

Here’s the playoff bracket for this Sun 7/24…
