2011 Spring-Summer Sundays Roadmap: AAA-SJ

MON 7/18 (3:15PM) — For this past Sun 7/16, I swapped the last two blocks of games on 7/17 and 7/24 so that One Team One Dream would get a bye (doubleheader on 7/24) and Insanity would have a game on 7/17. This was motivated by the fact that One Team One Dream has been continually delinquent all season on payments. To “stop the madness”, I told them that they would need to be paid up by tomorrow Tue 7/19 at 11:59pm, otherwise we would remove them from the scheduling, which effectively would leave us with two teams on 7/24 (Insanity and Hibachi) in which they were supposed to play. That would allow me to matchup those two teams against each other, thus still leaving the division intact with 6 games played each, although One Team would obviously be excluded from the playoffs if they didn’t pay. Incidentally, I offered to refund them back to $475 if they forgot to pay, since they would only end up with 4 games played at the time of this potential explusion.

MON 7/4 (1:15PM) — When Team Elites was expelled, we had an 8-team schedule. I tried to rematch the teams that were supposed to play Team Elites together, but that proved to have too many repeat matchups. So I have scrapped that entirely and taken the games that were already played, implementing a 7-team structure. The remaining matchups starting with 6/26 on thru the end of the regular season, 7/17, is much cleaner. And things weren’t too complicated matching the real matchups up thru 6/19 to the actual 7-team structure.

Here are the changes that have been made to the roadmap since inception, with the date the change was made:

5/17 – insert block #3 due to tipoff conflicts
6/1 – push back due to 6/5 no gyms
6/9 – insert block #4 to 6/12 due to gym issues
6/16 – expel Team Elites, rematch 6/12 & 6/19
6/16 – move Wk#7 to 6/26 due to 6ft-sj SJH6 bye
6/21 – completely revamped 7-team sched, no TmE

THU 6/20 (6:15PM) — Note: the AAA-SJ will change due to the withdrawal/explusion of Team Elites. There is also a chance that Insanity will drop out, even though the captain has already paid the full team entry fee. More info is expected to be posted by Tue midnight, so we know how to rematch the teams that were playing against Team Elites and possibly Insanity too.

We also offered an at-cost rate for a 6FT-SJ team to put in a team to take the place of Team Elites, but we’re not sure if the two teams that expressed interest in doing so will come through.

THU 6/9 (8:00AM) — For 6/12, we once again have a shortage of gym space by one game, due to AHHS not informing us of a Vietnamese Student Award ceremony in their gym until two days ago. One game on the entire SJ docket had to be postponed. I chose One Team One Dream and South Bay Youth Inc to be the teams to be postponed, forcing me to match them up, which resulted in a swap of block of games (block #4 to be exact, see roadmap below).

Their game will merely be postponed to the 6/19 Fathers Day makeup day, when we have more gym space again. The reason I chose these teams is because OTSJ has been giving me problems from a financial standpoint with their SF team, OTSF, which was actually expelled due to that from the AAA-SF division. I also chose SBYI to be postponed because their entire team is funded by Ron as part of the JLHS basketball program. So you see, there are actually benefits in being a “regular” team and paying your dues in full and on time. Not being a regular team means I feel I can do what I need to do with your team when the league calls for it, and this is a perfect example of that.

SAT 6/4 (12:45PM) — Scroll down for the latest and greatest due to the absence of available SJ gyms on 6/5. Everything got pushed back to 6/12 and beyond. It looks like if we have a Repeat Championship, it will occur on 8/28. With Labor Day after that and the start of the 2011 Fall season after that, please do not take any vacation and please honor the schedule as-is. Remember, the registration page for this 2011 Summer season specifically said not to take any vacation until September.

SAT 5/14 (8:45PM) — Here’s the roadmap for the season for AAA-SJ. Thanks to the recent addition of Team Elites from the 6FT-SJ (see 6FT-SJ roadmap), we now have 8 teams. We will have each team play each other for 7 games in the regular season. Then the teams at .500 or above will get double-elimination status for the playoffs, while the sub-.500 teams will be one-and-done in the playoff bracket.

You can see I matched up the actual 5/8 matchups to adhere to the structure of the 8-team schedule. Previously, we had a 7-team format and Insanity had the “natural” bye for 5/8, while also signing up late. With the advent of Team Elites, we need to make that a matchup of Team Elites vs Insanity, and move that game to 6/19. Therefore, Team Elites and Insanity will have to play on the makeup date of Fathers Day, 6/19.

We sort of got lucky with the gym closure on 5/15, which meant the AAA-SJ did not leave the station yet while Team Elites joined us. Otherwise, there would have been potentially two makeup games for Team Elites. But with no games on 5/15, they only have to makeup the 5/8 game (on 6/19).

Future blocks of games per week, could theoretically be juggled to accommodate a schedule quirk here or there. Should you be concerned with anything you see below, please email wylie(at)dreamleague(dot)org and we will explain or fix it.

You can see from the “Wk” column, which numbers the various blocks of games, that I did a fair amount of juggling around. Quite honestly I don’t recall why I moved some things around from the 7-team schedule. Now that it’s an 8-team schedule, which means there are no byes except for the holidays noted, it doesn’t really matter which blocks comes next, but I’ll leave it numbered the way it is.

Remember, this season we are trying to get all the teams to adhere to certain guidelines in each division. For AAA, the guideline is that you should have no one taller than 6’3″ on the floor. At the same time, the 2nd-tallest players shouldn’t be taller than 6’2″. The idea is that teams signup for this team expecting not to have to deal with too many dominant post players at the heights indicated, otherwise those teams should have signed up for AL/NL from the get-go.

In the roadmap below, if you see red text with a line through it, it means that’s where the game was originally scheduled in a “perfect” template. However, special requests can move those games to other dates, such as denoted in bold green, and a series of swaps can occur, but the matchups will always be fixed. The number of red cross-outs should always equal the number of bold green adds.
