2011 Spring-Summer Sundays Roadmap: AAA-OAK

FRI 6/10 (12:30PM) — Whoops, I failed to account for the already-played matchup of 5/1 Oakboyz vs Monstars. So obviously they aren’t playing on 6/26 and will have 6 regular season games like everyone else.

I would also like to announce that team Qwest from the AL/NL will, barring unforeseen circumstances, be joining the AAA-OAK playoffs to give us 8 teams. They have currently lost games in the AL/NL by 20, 30, 40, and 50 points. So please note, I would do the same for your team if it became clear that you did not belong in the right division.

Incidentally, feel free to let me know if that is the case for your team. I have been quite detached from AAA-OAK this season and so I don’t really know what’s going on in that division yet.

SUN 6/5 (12:30PM) — Scroll down or click the link below this post to jump down to the top of the roadmap. The only thing to report is the 5/15 tipoff conflict for Yack Em which forced me to give them the natural bye that week. Other than that, it’s a pretty clean and straightforward roadmap with almost no changes, which is a good thing. 7 teams, 7 blocks of games, 1 team with a natural bye each week, 6 regular season games, everyone gets double-elim in the playoffs.

THU 5/12 (8:45AM) — Here’s the roadmap for the season for AAA-OAK. Please note, this the first draft and is subject to change, based on any unforeseen circumstances for this Sun 5/15. I should know by tonight if there are any such quirks, such as a drastic special request that would cause disruption in the schedule.

We had 6 teams, then added a 7th yesterday night. With 7 teams, it is not mathematically possible to have a 7-game regular season schedule, therefore we will go with the traditional 6, then playoffs. It’s pretty straightforward. You play each of the 7 teams once for 6 games.

The plan is that everyone gets double-elimination status for playoffs. Assuming 7 teams for the playoffs, the #1 seed would get a first-round bye. The remainder of the playoff structure is shown below in the roadmap.

You can see I matched up the actual 5/1 and 5/8 matchups to adhere to the structure of the 7-team schedule. Future blocks of games per week, even this Sun 5/15, could theoretically be juggled to accommodate a schedule quirk here or there. Should you be concerned with anything you see below, please email wylie(at)dreamleague(dot)org and we will explain or fix it.

Remember, this season we are trying to get all the teams to adhere to certain guidelines in each division. For AAA, the guideline is that you should have no one taller than 6’3″ on the floor. At the same time, the 2nd-tallest players shouldn’t be taller than 6’2″. The idea is that teams signup for this team expecting not to have to deal with too many dominant post players at the heights indicated, otherwise those teams should have signed up for AL/NL from the get-go.

In the roadmap below, if you see red text with a line through it, it means that’s where the game was originally scheduled in a “perfect” template. However, special requests can move those games to other dates, such as denoted in bold green, and a series of swaps can occur, but the matchups will always be fixed. The number of red cross-outs should always equal the number of bold green adds.

The only other items of significance at this point was juggling the schedule to match the bye requests of Oakboyz (late May/June), Marinlossal (6/5), and being careful with the Monstars’ early start and scheduled bye as a result of the 5/1 early matchup vs Oakboyz. So you can see how the blocks of games, indicated by the “Wk” column, have been swapped around. With the Oakboyz late June request, they will have 3 straight weeks off (some team had to take that) on 6/19 Fathers Day, 6/26 “natural” bye, and 7/3 July 4th holiday. I’m sure the other 6 teams are glad the Oakboyz wanted late June off.

The 6/5 bye for Marinlossal is pretty straightforward. For the Monstars, you want to be careful not to give them too many byes in a row. As it turns out, putting the removed matchup of Oakboyz vs Monstars, which is basically putting a bye for both teams, anywhere in the schedule would create a situation where both teams would be taking two straight weeks off, due to the many holidays in the summer. I chose 5/22 for them. Thus, they will take 5/22 and 5/29 off. I figured since they played on 5/1, they’d have started the season with 3 straight games without any breaks. So 5/22 bye makes sense for both these teams.
