Saturday SF Bird’s Eye View Schedule for 7/2

FRI 7/1 (11:00AM) — While this post is definitely kinda late, the progression of events leading up to this schedule has been going on via email with the captains over the past few days. Scroll down below the schedule table to see this core dump of issues discussed (only posted there for your reference). It also explains why certain teams are playing tomorrow and why certain teams aren’t. Btw, there’s actually 4pm tipoff that is a makeup game for the Sunday League, and is not listed below.

OCHS = O’Connell High School, 20th St betw Harrison & Folsom: enter side entrance on 20th St, if the parking lot gate is available, park away from the construction and nearest to soccer field, if the parking lot is closed then find street parking.

NOTE: Games listed in bold are “locked” at their respective times and cannot be moved/changed.

Wow, we lost a few games this Sat 7/2 due to various bye requests and quirks in the schedule. Here’s what I got so far, which is about 95% ready to go, and I’ll explain below. THIS IS NOT FINAL, DO NOT FORWARD TO YOUR TEAMMATES YET…

7/2 12:00PM OCHS REC Kings at Hooligans
7/2 1:00PM OCHS REC Handsome Devils at iParty Squadron
7/2 2:00PM OCHS 6ft+1 Average Joes at The Fam
7/2 3:00PM OCHS 6ft+1 Tim’s team at Wizards

OCHS = O’Connell High School (directions forthcoming, after final confirmation of schedule, read below)

First of all, as I explained before, we have 5 teams in the REC taking a bye this Sat 7/2.

As for the sudden byes in 6FT+1 given to Blueprint and Eagles, as well as Problems and iParty, here’s what happened…

– Blueprint wanted a late game. Obviously we didn’t have a late slot for them, although normally we will have 8 games in which the last game is at 7p. So, we gave them a bye.
– Eagles got paired with Blueprint’s bye because it was Eagles vs Blueprint last Sat 6/25. This made it easier.
– There was actually one other 6FT+1 game last Sat 6/25, but it turned out the Hooligans signed up for the wrong division.
– Problems needed a bye for this Sat 7/2, since they are playing in a tournament. So the next question was, whom do we pair that bye with?
– I gave the other bye needed to be paired with Problems’ bye to iParty, since they had a restrictive special request anyways.

In essence, Blueprint vs Eagles was already played, so we take a bye for them this Sat 7/2. Problems vs iParty will be made up on 7/16, the same date in which we have one less REC game, so it all balances out. On 7/16, the last game should still be at 7p and Problems vs iParty will involve a doubleheader for both teams, in making up the absence from this Sat 7/2.

Finally, the only remaining issue is that Kings and Hooligans will play an hour earlier than they would normally like this Sat 7/2, at 12p.

If there are any strong objections to any of the above, let me know by 3pm today. Please be reminded that this “house of cards” is already standing and ready to go. It’d be nice not to have to make any changes.

If I don’t hear from you by 3pm today, I will assume we are good to go with the above, and previously explained issues below, and set the schedule in stone. Only at that point would I advise you to inform your teammates, just in case.

Hey guys, sorry to go old school and give updates by email, but now that I’m back in the saddle working on this thing, here are the special requests that I had gotten for this Sat 7/2…

7/2 REC Soup =bye
7/2 6ft+1 Blue >630p
7/2 6ft+1 iPAS =1p

In the effort to give Soup Nazis a bye, I took advantage of their “soft-launch” matchup vs Motionz back on 6/18. As such, Motionz will also have a bye on 7/2.

Since REC has an odd number of teams, that means there still needs to be one team in REC who takes a “natural” bye. However, in a 9-team setup, when you have all teams playing 6 games, that means you end up with one week where THREE teams take a “natural” bye. It’s just how the 6-games-in-a-9-team-format works. It just so happens — especially after looking at all the bye requests for the season — that it makes a lot of sense to have that quirky week be this Sat 7/2 for REC.

Therefore, I have Wolverines taking the “natural” bye, along with GPC and Aubergine. You’ll see how this plays out when I post the roadmap for REC. Again, don’t worry, all 9 REC teams will still end up with 6 games played (which also means each team will not play against two other teams).

So, here are the five REC teams with a bye this Sat 7/2, once again…

Soup Nazis and Motionz
Wolverines
GPC and Aubergine

To these teams, enjoy the 4th of July weekend break!

Having only two REC games creates a problem in the 6FT+1 because Blueprint asked for a late game, but now that there are only a select number of games (two for REC and four for 6FT+1), the last game will be 5p, as follows…

12p
1p
2p
3p
4p
5p

Alright, back to work! TTYL.

Sick as a dawg last nite. Had a fever. I’ll start work on the Sat 7/2 schedule at OCHS today during 10a-12p timeframe. Sorry about that. Hopefully I’ll be able to crank it out. Btw the 8th team in 6FT+1 paid, so we’re good on that front.

Dear SF Saturday League captains,

We have had a myriad of special requests plus another team switching divisions after seeing them play this past Sat, plus one team that hasn’t yet made up its mind on whether or not to play (would be the 8th team 6FT+1), so I can’t really work on the schedule until all of that is settled.

That being said, I’m also NOT accepting anymore special requests for Saturday League scheduling. That’s it. You gave me your tipoff timeframes and now, please live with what you get. Again, I would like to preach that it just ain’t worth trying to pickup that guy who can only make so-and-so times/dates. From my two decades of exp managing rec league teams, you are better off just going with the guys who will clear their schedules out for the league.

I hope to get the season schedule done, and therefore for this Sat 7/2, by tomorrow midday. The good news is, OCHS has been confirmed as the backup for MDLS.

Thanks,
Rich
