MON 6/20 (6:30PM) — More changes were made on 6/14 to accommodate various scheduling difficulties for 6/19. Note, Yeah Man and Beast Mode will now have doubleheaders on 7/10, the second-to-final week of the regular season. The plan is still to have a 7-game regular season, in which only the teams with .500 or better records have double-elimination status for the playoffs. We’ll revisit this after the 7/10 games. You never know, there could be gym issues forcing the season not to go too long.
Here’s an updated list of changes made to this roadmap since the beginning of the season and the original post…
A/R-SJ UPDATES:
5/12 – initial post
5/12 – create GSCC bye 5/22
5/12 – create BmSJ bye 5/15
5/18 – double-switch for Jets due to GSCC bye 6/19
6/1 – push back due to 6/5 no gyms
6/14 – matchup 6/19 Pine-Jets
6/14 – move 6/26 Pine-BstM to 7/10
6/15 – move 6/19 Yeah-BmSJ to 7/10

SAT 6/4 (1:00PM) — Scroll down for the latest and greatest update to the roadmap. Here’s a list of changes that have occurred. You can also see that on 6/19, I will have to matchup a team against the Jets (can only be either Garage Kids, FNF, Beast Mode, or Pineapple Express). This is a result of GSCC’s byes and double-switches needed to make that happen:

MON 5/16 (12:15PM) — Team Vpk has changed its name to the SJ Dynamites. It is reflected in the updated roadmap table below.
WED 5/11 (11:00PM) — Here’s the roadmap for the season for A/R-SJ. Please note, this the first draft and is subject to change, based on any unforeseen circumstances for this Sun 5/15. I should know by tomorrow night if there are any such quirks, such as a drastic special request that would cause disruption in the schedule.
With 12 teams, it is usually easiest if we split into two conferences whereby teams in the same conference have similar tipoff timeframes. Therefore, I have made the split by “morning” and “afternoon”, roughly speaking.
Incidentally, I have named the morning to early afternoon teams as “Eastern” conference since the sun rises in the East. So the later afternoon and evening teams will be in the “Western” conference. Remember, when we schedule an east team vs a west team, we have the 3p midpoint rule.
With all 12 teams playing each week, that means we finish the regular season with 7 games. Each team will play each of the 6 other teams in its conference for 5 games, during which one of the six teams in each conference will play each other for a cross-conference matchup each week.
So you can see we close out the 6th and 7th games with pure cross-conference, non-repeating, standings-based matchups. That makes things much more interesting as we head into the playoffs. However, with the blind scheduling from 5/1, you can see that I had to perform a few double-switches in red and green below.
The good thing about what I did is that it is inherently difficult to have the West 1st place play the East 1st place (and so on) for two straight weeks. But now that I have forced two of these matchups and officially moved them to be two of the 5/8 matchups (which were really close games on 5/8), the remainder of the standings-based matchups have to work around the forced matchup, which allows for corrections of the “real” 1st place teams to play each other (for example) in the 7th week. Also, I just arbitrarily forced these games into the 2nd- and 3rd-place slots. It’s not like I expect SB Arsenal or Booom to be in 2nd place at the time. I just have to put that pre-defined matchup in one of the slots. Again, all very hard to explain. Don’t worry if you don’t get it. Just trust me that it all mathematically makes sense and is still fair.
With a 7-game regular season, that means if you finish .500 or better, you will have double-elimination status for the playoffs. If you finish below .500, you’ll have single-elimination. That yields the 8-game minimum season we have in Dream League.
You can see I matched up the actual 5/8 matchups to adhere to the structure of the 12-team schedule with all the morning and afternoon teams split up into their respective conferences.
Future blocks of games per week, even this Sun 5/15, could theoretically be juggled to accommodate a schedule quirk here or there. Should you be concerned with anything you see below, please email wylie(at)dreamleague(dot)org and we will explain or fix it.
Remember, the REC division in SJ is in its infancy. As the league grows, we expect to have “pure” REC teams separated away from the slightly more competitive in AAA-REC. But for now, everyone will have to be bunched into the AAA-REC (aka “AAA-REC San Jose” or “A/R-SJ”). I am trying to do my best to make sure teams are in the right divisions. A/R teams could be refugees from struggling in a higher division such as AAA or 6FT. To maintain the integrity we are striving for, we encourage all teams to limit the tallest player to 6’2″, and only have one such big man at the 6’2″ height in the game at anytime (i.e., you could have two 6’2″ players, but only one may be on the court at one time). The idea is that if you had taller players, your team would’ve signed up for AAA-SJ, not A/R-SJ.
If you see red text with a line through it, it means that’s where the game was originally scheduled in a “perfect” template. However, special requests can move those games to other dates, such as denoted in bold green, and a series of swaps can occur, but the matchups will always be fixed. The number of red cross-outs should always equal the number of bold green adds.
Also note that Yeah Man taking a bye on 5/8 and Vpk’s late entry yields a matchup between the two that gets vacated to another future date, which we arbitrarily assume will be 6/19 (Fathers’ Day makeup).
We have also created a bye on 5/22 per SB Arsenal’s request. Their early start on 5/1 facilitates this by doing a double-switch along with the inter-conference games from 6/26. Basically, just a lot of juggling of puzzle pieces to get what teams want, with the goal of not disrupting the schedule too much, such as with doubleheaders. There are currently no doubleheaders.
