2011 Spring-Summer Sundays Roadmap: REC-PM (Upper)

TUE 6/7 (10:00PM) — Just wanted to state that I have not changed the roadmap for REC+PM since the first post… SAT 5/14 (10:30PM) — Here’s the roadmap for the season for REC+PM, aka “REC-PM Upper”. There are actually two levels of REC: REC-Upper (aka “REC+”) and REC-Lower (aka “REC-“). Each is subdivided into AM and PM. Therefore, you have REC-AM, REC-PM, REC+AM, and REC+PM.

You can see I matched up the actual 5/8 matchups to adhere to the structure of the 8-team schedule. With 8 teams, each team will play each other once for 7 regular season games. With 7 regular season games, we will go with double-elimination status for the playoffs for the teams that finish .500 or above in the regular season, and single-elimination one-and-done status for those who finish sub-.500 in the regular season. That still yields a minimum of 8 guaranteed games for the season, as is the standard in Dream League.

Future blocks of games per week, could theoretically be juggled to accommodate a schedule quirk here or there. Should you be concerned with anything you see below, please email wylie(at)dreamleague(dot)org and we will explain or fix it.

Remember, in REC here I am trying to do my best to make sure teams are in the right divisions. The first step aside from constant reminders is to ensure that no teams in the “pure” REC pickup players from other divisions. Since this division is the “Upper”, you are allowed to pickup players from other divisions.

We get that right and protect the “pure” or “Lower” division(s), then it’s a great first step. Beyond that, we try to make sure if your team is too seasoned or too strong or has a ringer that refuses to play in a higher division, that you play in the right division. This goes for REC Upper teams who might be more qualified for AAA-REC. There is nothing we can really say in black and white on that, but I am sure we will, at some point, suggest to a team in this division that they move up to another division. Of course, most likely we would have to wait until the season is over to do that. This is an evolution.

First of all, REC is supposed to be a division where you don’t care if you win or lose. But even if you did “care” (whatever that means), if it means having a “hired gun” take you to the promised land, well, that’s the very reason why we have higher divisions! I implore you to take the challenge of competing on your own. I encourage you to assemble a team whereby you have no idea how you’ll finish, and that it’s the journey that you value, not the destination. And if it turns out that your journey was an easy one, challenge yourself to put a thicker jungle or a taller mountain in front of you to climb. Try getting past it multiple times. Don’t give up. But if you do decide to drop a division, know that you gave the previous division your best, honest effort. I hope you will all find value in such journeys.

In the roadmap below, if you see red text with a line through it, it means that’s where the game was originally scheduled in a “perfect” template. However, special requests can move those games to other dates, such as denoted in bold green, and a series of swaps can occur, but the matchups will always be fixed. The number of red cross-outs should always equal the number of bold green adds.
