2011 Winter-Spring Sundays Roadmap: 6FT-OSF

TUE 3/1 (1:45PM) — This next block of games, the 6th and final regular season game for all except Sqad Up, is also based on standings. However, it’s a tad bit more complicated than last week because we can’t repeat the matchups and of the need to balance the home-aways.

You might want to search on “6FT-OSF standings” in the Search Box in the upper-left-hand area of this website to find the standings, for your reference.

Now, some of the below depends on gym situations to work out, so it’s actually NOT final, but it’s certainly what I hope to have happen. That being said, if this webpage doesn’t change by the time I get the first draft of the Bird’s Eye schedule up, then the following matchups hold. So here’s what we have…

  • Wolves at Falcons: Quite simply, atop their standings if you take Sqad Up (bye) out of the equation.
  • Beast at Too Short: Beast has beaten both Blitzkrieg and Eastbay Elite, so they are ahead of them in the standings. It is just pure coincidence that the standings, which is alphabetically ordered whenever the W-L PCT’s are the same, have them in the correct order. We’ll put this game in SF since Beast hasn’t traveled yet and there are more OAK teams than SF, yielding mathematical odds that more SF teams would be eliminated in the playoffs and therefore have fewer SF home opportunities.
  • Hangover at Eastbay Elite: EBE has already played against FTA, so we can’t match up Hangover vs Blitzkrieg. Therefore, we have Hangover vs EBE and we put it in OAK since EBE traveled to SF already (last week vs FTA) and Hangover hasn’t traveled yet.
  • FTA at Blitzkrieg: Likewise with the EBE vs Hangover matchup, we have to have FTA vs Blitzkrieg as a matchup. As far as homecourt, the game will be in OAK because not only has Blitzkrieg had to travel to SF already, but also FTA has not traveled yet.

Again, the above is pending and if it does change, you will know it on this here page. We could very well get hit by a wrench from left field, e.g., not enough gym space in SF or something. We’ll see.

TUE 2/22 (2:15PM) — The roadmap for this Sun 2/27 is quite complicated, due to the various juggling that I can’t even remember why we did, but it’s done nevertheless. The standings aren’t updated as of this writing, but if I do it by hand, then we have this…

Sqad Up 5-0
Wolves 2-2 (beat Beast head-to-head)
Beast 2-2
Blitzkrieg 2-3
Eastbay Elite 1-3

Falcons 3-1
Too Short 2-2
Hangover 2-2
FTA 0-4

Looks like Too Short vs Hangover is a juggled makeup game, so we need to skip them when assigning the East vs West matchups by standings. At the same time, we can choose to give the odd-team-out-East bye to either Sqad Up or Blitzkrieg, which is also reinforced by the fact that there is one East team taking a bye next Sun 3/6. Equivalently, either Sqad or Blitz will have 6 games after 2/27, so that team will be done with its regular season.

Because the Falcons are cruising in 1st place in the West, it makes sense to have that long-anticipated Sqad Up vs Falcons matchup now and let Blitzkrieg take the bye for this Sun 2/27. It follows that we have FTA at 0-4, so we’ll pair them up against Eastbay Elite.

That leaves Beast vs Wolves as the repeat East matchup. When the roadmap was created, we had just pegged the East repeat for this week to be the 4th vs 5th place, but it doesn’t really matter. It just has to be a matchup based on standings. And I think our matchups for Sun 2/27 should be quite juicy, since aside from the Too Short vs Hangover makeup, they’re all based on standings.

And the final check is that every team will have 5 games played except for the aforementioned Sqad Up, after these 2/27 games.

Btw, the OAK-SF games for this Sun 2/27 will be in SF because we have more OAK teams. It should balance out in the playoffs. In other words, mathematically there is more of a chance of having an OAK vs OAK matchup in the playoffs, which resolves itself. That extra game at home in OAK is balanced ahead of time with this matchup of OAK-SF in SF. Sorry, it’s hard to explain.

2/14 (2:15PM) — Forgot to explicitly say that the Western Conference (i.e., SF teams) have a bye on 2/20. However, FTA vs Hangover is a makeup from a previous double-swap in the scheduling, so really it’s only Falcons and Too Short taking a “league-wide” bye on 2/20.

1/19 (3:00PM) — First draft post.
